silica-mono
A coding font that starts from Geist Mono and swaps in Latin letters and programming symbols traced from SGI's Screen 15 bitmaps. The result is compact, stays legible at small sizes on low-DPI screens and scales cleanly on HiDPI ones.
Availability
Six static TTF files: regular, medium and bold, each with a matching italic. All six are hinted with ttfautohint.
Details
Screen 15's bitmap cells are traced into fixed-pitch TrueType outlines. Rectilinear glyphs keep their square corners, while exposed outer corners on rounded letters are softened slightly. Italics are a 12° shear of the uprights. Medium is the regular bitmap emboldened; bold comes from SGI's Screen Bold 15.
Where Screen 15 has no glyph, Geist Mono's stays. The build also generates Latin Extended letters from Screen-style bases and accents, and adds 29 programming symbols (arrows, quantifiers, set and logic operators, proof turnstiles and check marks) drawn on the Screen grid after JetBrains Mono. Silica Mono is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
